Aluminium profiles, Arduino, vibrating motors, laser-cut acrylic sheets, sand

Porquerolles is an island deeply connected to my roots in the south of France. This site is as beautiful as it’s extremely vulnerable because of its fragile ecosystem. Rising sea levels are gradually reclaiming its shores and overtourism is erasing its traditions and character. This installation/machine explores the themes of nostalgia and loss through the form of a sandcastle, an innocent childish fortress. The vibrating motors underneath the plate crumble the castle slowly, showcasing the island’s engineered decay both environmental and cultural.
